Episode 894: R.E.M. – ‘Up’

July 6, 2020

All music in this episode from R.E.M.’s 1998 album Up, released on Warner Bros.

  • “At My Most Beautiful”
  • “Falls To Climb”
  • “Daysleeper”
  • “The Apologist”
  • “Lotus”
  • “Airportman”
  • “Walk Unafraid”

Patron of the pod Noah Crane picks today’s topic: R.E.M.’s 1998 album, Up. The band’s 11th studio album was the first record without drummer Bill Berry; opting instead for session musicians and drum machines. Up left a lot of fans feeling down without the group’s original drummer, among others. Noah, however, has a more positive perspective of it.
